Techniques for Integration/Synthesis

Where is “integration” taught? At what level is “synthesis” taught to our children. Ironically, both of these are honored as the most important of human accomplishments when they are completed. But they are not taught anywhere in our current curricula – even in science and engineering where they are most needed.
