My early research was attacked viciously by established cell biologist. It consisted of using Physarum polycephalum syncytial plasms, which nurtured hundreds to thousands of nuclei all naturally held in the same stage of the cell cycle. My students and I devised a device to put into the bottom of centrifuge tubes that would hold EM grids in horizontal positions. We digested the nuclei as they descended through the low centrifugal fields
Now the good and the bad. I actually praise the critics for condemning me for extending my concepts suggestions that were not directly tested in the experiments. This is good rigor for the scientific method. However, they seemed to miss the point that I was not extending to conclusions but rather using the experimental results to envision relations that were not yet experimentally tested.
