Defining Complexity

One of the endless, unfinished debates is over how to measure or deal with the complexity feature of many systems. If you are a biologist, you want to be able to quantify complexity, especially across processes like evolution and development. If you are a systems engineer, you want to reduce the complexity that leads to disruptive chaos or use features or principles of complexity to design better systems. And clearly, many of our most pressing social crises are one’s arising from the increasing complexity of humans, their societies, and their artifacts.
